“Well, whatever it was,” Dustin says, giving you a toothy smile, “I’m just glad our resident badass was here to help.” “Something from the Upside Down,” Mike mutters, shuddering at the thought. "What the hell was that thing?” you ask, out of breath. You quickly pull your gaze away and move it back to your friends. There’s no recognisable breathing and the body looks pretty beat up. Gingerly, you approach it- and it looks pretty dead to you. Is it dead?“ Will asks, but you don’t know. Your eyes widen as your brain catches up with your actions. It hits the hard, solid wall with a ‘thwack.’ All those failed practises for sport seem to have finally taught you something as you send the creature flying across the room. This time you swing harder, and harder than you ever have before. The monster grows and tries again to leap for you. It’s attention is now on you but once you notice the wound you have left on it, a strange sense of confidence fills you. It is angry now, agitated by your attack. The monsters head turns to you.īefore you and it realise what is happening, you wield the crowbar like a sword and land a solid thump on the creature. You let out a scream it doesn’t sound scared though (despite the fact that you were terrified), it sounds like a challenge. You look slightly shaky- and the object does seem oversized in your grasp, but nonetheless you keep it up and high by your side.Īs soon as the Demo-whatever-it-is realises that it is no longer cornered, is leaps at the boys. They look around to see why you haven’t followed them and notice you were now holding a large crowbar in your hands. You don’t need to be told twice and you run to the other side of the basement. “Run!” Lucas urges Will, as the thing begins to run for you and your friends. “Is that… is that a Demogorgon?” Dustin asks, his voice full of fear. It was snarling and growling in a way that was eerily familiar to the wrong group. Just as Mike begins to back away, the noise starts all over again and from it springs what can only be described as a monster. Mike drags the blanket that is covering the corner away.Īnd, for a moment, you think you can relax: the noise has stopped. The clutter around, once seemingly harmless and unassuming, acts as cover for whatever lies behind it. The corner where the source of the noise seems to be coming from is dark and tucked away. Mike continues walking forward and you subconsciously hold your breath, scared for him. "We can’t exactly tell Mike’s parents,” Dustin adds, “I don’t think the noise is a rat… or even from-” "What else am I meant to do?“ he responds, looking back to you. "What the hell are you doing?“ you ask, "Mike, please, it could be dangerous!” Your eyes widen and you immediately stand up, hoping to pull Mike back before he got himself killed. The noise gets louder and more frightening as he does so. Mike gets up and begins walking towards the edge of the room. “That sound is definitely real,” Lucas confirms, looking around the room for the source of the noise. “Please tell me I’m not the only one hearing this,” Will murmurs. There is was again- were you going crazy? But, as you looked around to your friends, they were just as shocked as you. The boys were still talking about the game when you immediately shushed them. You had to say that you were definitely in the best position in the game however this confidence was interrupted when you heard a noise. After you all arrived at Mike’s house (the four of you on bikes while Will was driven by his brother), the Dungeons and Dragons game was resumed. It was crazy- even for someone who loves fantasy worlds, adventures and the ideal of meeting mythical beings, it was crazy. But, what you had not expected to be happening was a fight with a creature not of this world. Meet Mike, Will, Lucas and Dustin in the morning. There are many things you had had expected to happen today.
